ROSS Cleator Moor (Cancelled)

April 29, 2020 @ 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm

This event is not going ahead.

ROSS is a special project for older Irish people and their friends organised by the Tyneside Irish Cultural Society. One of our aims is to bring together Irish emigrants who settled in the North East region during the 50s and 60s to celebrate their cultural heritage. Our title comes from the famous Dubliner’s song- ‘The Rare Ould Times’ -and we think it sums up many of our childhood memories.

Every month ROSS is on the road to a local venue where there is a lunch, live Irish music and entertainment.

Tony Corcoran, the director of the Tyneside Irish Cultural Society, says:

“ We’ve been running our Raised on Songs and Stories project (ROSS) for almost four years and it has proved very popular. Since we started we have visited localities in Newcastle, Northumberland and Teesside with a homely offering of a hot lunch, some live Irish music and a chance for Irish people to meet without travelling any great distance.

This year’s grant funding is helping us provide social lunchtime events for older members of local Irish communities, enabling participants to meet and enjoy activities that will help them stay in touch with their heritage and cultural identity and reduce isolation.”

Anyone wishing to participate in any of the events or find out more about ROSS should contact Barbara Flynn on 0191 2610385 or at tyneirishcs@gmail.com.

All events are free and begin at 12.30pm and finish around 3pm.
