The Tyneside Irish Centre hosts a number of courses throughout the year, these are run in conjunction with the Workers’ Educational Association (WEA).
The following courses will run for 10 weeks from the 19th of September 2011;
Basic Computers

1pm – 3pm
Fee: £30 or £20 for members
Using everyday situations; using the Internet, search engines and web pages. Learn how to control the mouse, understand the meaning of the various icons related to the mouse and cursor – know when to click and double click, enter text into text boxes on forms. Scroll and navigate webpages, keeping ionformation safe, awareness of the importance of taking security measures when using the computer/internet. Understand basic computer jargon.
Irish Language for Beginners & Improvers

Fee: £30 or £20 for members
Learners will learn how to meet and greet people in Irish, comment on the weather, describe themselves, their hobbies, interests and much more. A bias will be placed on developing skills in basic conversation. The lessons will also aim to develop reading, writing and aural comprehension skills.
Tyneside Irish and the First World War

The Great War…and Gradnddad’s role in it. The world’s first fully mechanised, industrial war set the tones for all futture wars, changed society forever and had a lasting effect on the economy, the sciences and the arts. Its impact was felt here in the North East. We’ll find out what Granny did too.
Drama with Creative Writing Option

Continuing Tracy Gillman’s (Director of the theatre company ‘Beg Borrow Steal’) very successful community drama course at the Tyneside Irish Centre. With expert guidance members create their own plays and performances through improvisation and existing texts based on the members own experiences, interests and welcome to join this rolling programme that aims to explore the individual’s and group, creativity.
Twentieth Century Ireland Through Its Writers
10 Wednesdays from 21 September
7pm – 9pm
Fee: £30 or £20 for members
The course will examine the development of modern Ireland by reference to important comtemporary writers such as Sebastian Barry, Roddy Doyle and John B Keane.
Understanding and Managing Your Money in the Recession

5 Thursdays (fornightly) from 22 September 2011
7pm – 8.30pm
Fee: £10 or £7.50 for members
Getting a better understanding of the UK financial system will help you make the right decisions about money. Whether your concern is debt, savings, pension , or investment this course will help you sort it out and understand how the UK global economy affects you.
Build a Website

Fee: £40 or £30 for members
Throughout the course you will learn how to put your computer skills to use in building your own website. You will learn how to plan out and develop the website, add functionality to the website and more.
